LONDON, June 30 (UPI) -- Emma Watson is reportedly under investigation by U.K. immigration authorities for reportedly employing her American housekeeper in the country.

According to The Independent, Watson's maid was stopped by U.K. immigration authorities and was probed on how she intended to fund her trip in England. The questioning reportedly began after officials were alerted that the housekeeper had been working in the Harry Potter star's London home with a tourist visa.

It has been reported that the maid worked for three months in Britain between September 2013 and February 2014, at which point she reportedly stopped working for Watson. She reportedly began working for the actress when she lived in New York in early 2013.

The penalties for employing ilegal immigrants -- visitors are not allowed to work in the U.K. on tourist visas -- go up to £10,000 (more than $17,000) per worker in the U.K.

Neither Watson nor Home Office officials had comments on the incident.

After graduating from Rhode Island's Brown University in late may, the Noah actress moved to London.
