Pippa Middleton named ambassador for the British Heart Foundation

Middleton announced she and her brother James Middleton were partaking in the 3,000-mile Race Across America to benefit the British Heart Foundation earlier this month.

LONDON, June 16 (UPI) -- Pippa Middleton has a charitable week ahead of her.

Days after the 30-year-old British socialite announced she'd be participating in the Race Across America to benefit the British Heart Foundation, Hello Magazine reports that Middleton has signed on to be the newest ambassador of for the organization.

"I was shocked to learn that nearly three times more women die from coronary heart disease than breast cancer," Kate Middleton's younger sister said about her role.

"I'm passionate about raising awareness amongst women of this killer disease and I look forward to working with the BHF to highlight to women the risks of heart disease and importantly, how the can reduce them."

Middleton announced she and her brother James Middleton were partaking in the 3,000-mile journey from Oceanside, Calif., to Annapolis, Md. earlier this month.

"We are aiming to complete this non-stop challenge in eight days, riding between 350 and 500 miles a day," Middleton wrote in her Just Giving fundraising page. The duo began the journey on June 14 and have raised £4,216 thus far.
