LONDON, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Pippa Middleton, the socialite sister-in-law of Britain's Prince William, said she took flamenco dance classes to surprise guests at her 30th birthday.
In Saturday's installment of Middleton's The Daily Telegraph column, "Sport and Social, the party planner wrote about her impending 30th birthday in diary style in honor of fictional "British heroine" Bridget Jones.
Middleton wrote that she wanted to celebrate her milestone birthday in Seville, Spain, to get away from the "bad British weather."
"Hired some flamenco dancers for post-supper entertainment, but decide that the piece de resistance will be ME! I'm going to learn flamenco and surprise my guests with a star turn," she wrote.
The column detailed her flamenco dance lessons for a few weeks in Britain before her birthday, learning the stomping and twists and turns, and wrist-flicking to get the moves just right.
Her birthday performance on Sept. 6 turned out to be a success, she wrote.
"As the clapping begins, I spread my fan and move it in what I hope is a seductive fashion in front of my face. I shimmy and start to dance, focusing on my movements, on keeping in time with the music, on the choreography we've learnt. I must, like [another dancer] did earlier, tell a heartfelt story. I miss a step -- perhaps I drank a little more rioja than I thought, but I get through Primera Sevillana with minimal mistakes. Now for the Segunda. I put aside my pride and attempt to display dramatic expression. I stomp my heels, I spin -- I'm a little dizzy but before I know it, my hands have stretched to the sky, my head turns to one side and I pout dramatically as I hold my final position," she wrote.
