LOS ANGELES, April 21 (UPI) -- Author Margaret Atwood and the former California state librarian were among the winners at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, the newspaper reported.
The event concluded Saturday evening with the naming of the 33rd annual book prizes at the University of Southern California's Bovard Auditorium, a news release from the Times said.
Kevin Starr, former California State Library and author of a multi-volume comprehensive history of California, was honored with the Robert Kirsch Award for lifetime achievement. Atwood was presented with the Innovator's Award for cutting-edge business models, technology or applications of narrative art.
Other winners included:

-- "Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and a Hope in a Mumbai Undercity" by Katherine Boo for best current interest.
-- "Billy Flynn's Long Halftime Walk" by Ben Fountain for best fiction.
-- "Seating Arrangements" by Maggie Shipstead, which won the Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction.
-- "Everything Together: Collected Stories" by Sammy Harkham for best graphic novel or comic.
-- "America's Great Debate: Henry Clay, Stephen A. Douglas, and the Compromise That Preserved the Union" by Fergus M. Bordwich for best history book.
-- "Broken Harbor" by Tana French for best mystery or thriller.
-- "Poems, 1962-2012" by Louise Gluck for best poetry.
-- "Breasts: A Natural and Unnatural History" by Florence Williams for best science and technology book.
-- "Ask the Passengers" by A.S. King for best young adult literature.
