Disneyland's Space Mountain closed after OSHA citation

ANAHEIM, Calif., April 15 (UPI) -- Space Mountain and Soarin' Over California were closed at Disneyland in Anaheim following a safety citation, the Los Angeles Times said.

The rides, along with the Matterhorn, were closed Saturday. The Matterhorn re-opened Sunday, but the other two attractions remained shuttered and there was no immediate plan to re-open them, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The closures are voluntary and not based on guest safety, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health in Santa Ana issued a citation to the park Friday for violations stemming from the injury of an employee of a contractor performing maintenance on Space Mountain last year. The violations include failing to properly mount fire extinguishers and not providing guardrails on elevator work locations on the ride.

"We constantly strive to maintain a safe work environment for our cast members and contractors and we are reviewing certain protocols," Disneyland said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
