LOS ANGELES, March 27 (UPI) -- A paraplegic Los Angeles man, who was trapped when a Disneyland ride stopped working, was awarded $8,000 in U.S. District Court.
Santa Monica, Calif., attorney David Geffen said his client, Jose Martinez, 52, was riding Disneyland's "It's a Small World" ride Nov. 27, 2009, when it stopped working as he was exiting the goodbye tunnel.
"They started evacuating other guests and weren't evacuating him," Geffen said. "They said they couldn't move him out of the cave. ... They didn't summon the fire department right way."
"Disneyland Resort believes it provided all appropriate assistance to Mr. and Mrs. Martinez when the ride temporarily stopped and is disappointed that the court did not fully agree," said Suzi Brown, spokeswoman for Disneyland Resort.
The court in Santa Ana ruled Tuesday Disneyland should pay $4,000 for negligence and $4,000 for other access violations, the Los Angeles Times reported.
