'Zero' heads up box office with $24M

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- "Zero Dark Thirty," the Osama bin Laden thriller starring Jessica Chastain, was No. 1 at the box office this weekend with $24 million.

"A Haunted House," a horror spoof starring Marlon Wayans and Cedric the Entertainer, was No. 2 with $18.17 million.

All studio estimates of gross North American box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Gangster Squad" was third with $16.71 million; "Django Unchained" fourth with $11.065 milllion; "Les Miserables (2012)" fifth with $10.127 million; ,"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" sixth with $9.08 million; "Lincoln" seventh with $6.314 million; "Parental Guidance" eighth with $6.1 million; "Texas Chainsaw 3D" ninth with $5.15 million.

"Silver Linings Playbook" rounded out the top 10 with $5 million.


Britney Spears may do show in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Pop star Britney Spears has almost locked down a deal to do a Celine Dion-type show in Las Vegas, TMZ.com reported Sunday.

Spears is working with one of the Caesar group properties on the deal, TMZ said.

"The deal is a go. There are several stipulations that could throw a monkey wrench in the deal, but it's basically done," said a source connected to the negotiations.

The details of the agreement are still up in the air, the source said, adding that Spears' i likely to be paid more than $100 million a year.


Sudeikis proposes to Wilde

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- "Saturday Night Live" comedian Jason Sudeikis has proposed to actress Olivia Wilde after dating for just over a year, a friend said.

Sudeikis proposed to Wilde shortly after the holidays, People reported Saturday.

"They are so excited," says a source close to both. "And very, very happy."

The coupe began dating in November 2011 and moved in together last year.

So far there is no word of when the wedding will take place.


Minogue parts with longtime manager

SYDNEY, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Australian pop stat Kylie Minogue and her manager of 25 years, Terry Blamey, have decided to part ways, Blamey has confirmed.

The split was announced at a celebration of Minogue's career, the Sunday Mirror reported Saturday.

Minogue, 44, has said that she wants to focus on her acting career, a source close to the star said.

"Kylie's decision to stop recording for the time being and part company with Terry has come as a massive shock," the source said. "Ever since she broke into the charts in the 80s Terry has been the man behind the scenes. But now Kylie is saying she wants to pull back from the pressures that come with a music career. She says she's determined to devote more time both to herself and to her career as an actress."

Meanwhile, there seems to be no bad feelings between the two, as Minogue thanked Blamey in a speech last week, The Hollywood Reporter said.

She thanked him "for helping a 19-year-old girl take on the world and become a woman and an artist." She later toasted, "Here's to the future."
