NEW YORK, July 18 (UPI) -- The Tony Award-winning revival of "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" is to end its limited engagement Sept. 23, the show's producers said Wednesday.

The run was twice extended and originally scheduled to end a week later, but the new date was set to make room for the next engagement at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, beginning Oct. 4.

The show will have played 322 performances, making it the longest-running production of "Porgy and Bess" to ever play on Broadway, the producers said. It began previews Dec. 17 and officially opened Jan. 12.

Audra McDonald won her fifth Tony Award for her portrayal of down-on-her-luck Bess in the tragic love story. Norm Lewis plays hero Porgy and David Alan Grier plays villain Sportin' Life.
