LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., May 21 (UPI) -- "Star Wars" creator George Lucas turned out for Friday's opening of "Star Tours: The Adventures Continue," a 3D adventure at Florida's Walt Disney World Resort.

Also on hand were Disney President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger, who joined Lucas and a cast of hundreds of actors dressed as "Star Wars" characters, to celebrate the unveiling of the new attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Anthony Daniels, who has played C-3PO since the first "Star Wars" film debuted in 1977, attended the event, as well.

The opening of "Star Tours" anchored the first day of "Star Wars Weekends," celebrating the "Star Wars" legacy with special shows, presentations, motorcades and memorabilia. "Star Wars Weekends" run Friday-Sunday through June 12.

"Star Tours: The Adventures Continue" will open June 3 at Disneyland Resort in California.

The theme park describes the attraction as having eye-popping digital video, a dramatic musical score and motion simulator-based technology.

The original "Star Tours" attraction, which had been popular with Disney guests since the 1980s, was closed last year so Disney's creative team could work on the new version.
