'Fast Five' debut dominates box office

LOS ANGELES, May 1 (UPI) -- "Fast Five," the latest in the "Fast and the Furious" film series, raced to the top box office position this weekend with an estimated gross of $83.6 million.

The animated "Rio," featuring the voice of Anne Hathaway among others, dropped to the No. 2 spot with $14.4 million in gross receipts for the weekend.

"Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family" fell from No. 2 to No. 3 with $10 million.

All weekend gross estimates were provided by Box Office Mojo.

"Water for Elephants" came in at No. 4 for with a weekend take of $9.1 million. "Prom" debuted on the list at No. 5 with $5 million, while "Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil" opened at No. 6 with $4.1 million.

"Soul Surfer" took the No. 7 spot in its fourth week in theaters, taking in $3.3 million.

"Insidious" ($2.7 million), Hop ($2.6 million) and "Source Code" ($2.5 million) rounded out the Top 10 at the box office this weekend.
