LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Beau Bridges has signed on to appear in an upcoming episode of the U.S. television drama, "The Closer," TVGuide.com reported.

Bridges' screen credits include "Jerry Maguire," "My Name is Earl," "Stargate SG-1" and "Desperate Housewives."

TVGuide.com said he is to play character Provenza's former partner, who returns to help close a case turned over on appeal, in an episode to air next season.
