LOS ANGELES, April 16 (UPI) -- The judges on "American Idol" opted to use their one-time-only save option on Matt Giraud after the public voted the contestant off the show Wednesday night.

The decision was announced after Giraud sang a poorly received encore of "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman," the ballad he performed on the episode before, People.com said.

Two of the seven remaining contestants will be eliminated on next week's episode as a trade-off for the judges' save this week.
