Witness ties Brancato to homicide house

NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A witness in Lillo Brancato's murder trial has testified the "Sopranos" actor allegedly tried to buy drugs at a New York home where a cop was killed.

Charlie Magner, a friend of Brancato, testified the 32-year-old actor routinely visited the residence of Kenny Scovotti to allegedly purchase drugs, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

Scovotti's former home was the site of police officer Daniel Enchautegui's death on Dec. 10, 2005.

Prosecutors allege Brancato likely did not know Scovotti had died four months before the fatal cop shooting.

Brancato, who played mobster Mathew Bevilaqua on the popular HBO crime drama, stands accused with co-defendant Steven Armento of killing the off-duty police officer during a burglary attempt at the home.

The actor's defense attorneys have contended Brancato was at the home to buy drugs the night of Enchautegui's death, not to commit burglary, the Daily News reported.
