'Connection' ranks No. 1 in cop movie poll

NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- The 1971 film "The French Connection" ranked No. 1 on the New York Daily News's online reader poll of the best big-screen cop dramas.

The newspaper said 36 percent of voters named the Gene Hackman flick as their favorite cop movie.

"Serpico," starring Al Pacino, ranked No. 2 with 34 percent of the vote, while "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" came in at No. 3 with 20 percent.

"Prince of the City" and "The Naked City" each received 5 percent of the vote, the Daily News said.

The survey was conducted as a new entry in the police drama genre -- "Pride and Glory" -- hit U.S. theaters.

The Daily News didn't say how many people participated in its poll.
