Shepherd: Guitar show honors Hendrix

NEW YORK, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The Experience Hendrix tour traveling the United States gives people a chance to learn about the late rocker Jimi Hendrix, singer Kenny Wayne Shepherd says.

Shepherd said the musical tour, which is to arrive in New York this week, features musicians who either influenced Hendrix, who died in 1970 under murky circumstances, or once played alongside the "Are You Experienced" star, the New York Post reported Sunday.

"You got the guys who played with Hendrix, the guys who influenced Hendrix and all of us who were influenced by him," Shepherd said about Tuesday's scheduled show at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. "So it shows several different dimensions of Hendrix's music."

Shepherd told the Post the 19-city tour also gives guitar fans a chance to hear from two blues legends, Buddy Guy and Hubert Sumlin.

"Buddy Guy is always over the top. He just walks out onstage and takes over," he told the newspaper. "To watch (Guy and Sumlin) play together is something everyone should appreciate."
