NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Fashion model Donald Carmichael's head was grazed by a bullet fired during a robbery in New York, police say.

Police said an unspecified number of assailants robbed then shot the 23-year-old male model Saturday as he sat on the steps of his New York apartment, the New York Daily News said Sunday.

Carmichael's sister, Katrice Davis, said the model had just returned from a Las Vegas fashion shoot for the hip-hop fashion magazine, Floss.

"Donald's career was just beginning to take off," Davis said. "He was in Vegas for a shoot ... He does a lot of modeling overseas."

Carmichael's cousin, Lynette Newton, told the Daily News Carmichael was treated and released from the hospital but was "shaken" by the early morning assault.

"He's shaken up. He's very frightened," she said.
