Gallery sued over stolen Dali photos

NEW YORK, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- The owners of a cache of Salvador Dali photographs are suing a New York gallery for more than $700,000 after the pictures were allegedly stolen.

The heirs of photographer Philippe Halsman, with whom the late Spanish artist frequently collaborated, have filed suit in U.S. District Court in New York, claiming the Howard Greenberg Gallery in Manhattan didn't properly protect the photos they had entrusted it to sell on their behalf, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Halsman's relatives want the gallery to pay them $684,000, plus damages, the Post said.

The family contends the art dealers revealed the photos had been stolen when they inquired about getting them back after they failed to sell.
