NEW YORK, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. blues rock singer John Mayer says his highly publicized relationship with Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston ended due to "different chemistry."

The "Your Body is a Wonderland" singer said the couple ultimately broke up because they could not ignore their differences. But he had nothing but positive things to say about his celebrity ex-girlfriend, People magazine reported Saturday.

"People are different, people have different chemistry," Mayer said. "I ended a relationship to be alone, because I don't want to waste somebody's time if something's not right."

"Jennifer Aniston is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I have ever met."

Mayer also rejected any possible other causes for the end of the couple's relationship, People said.

"There's no lying, there's no cheating, there's no nothing," said Mayer, who had been dating the former "Friends" star since April.
