Dr. Oz getting own TV show

CHICAGO, June 15 (UPI) -- Dr. Mehmet C. Oz, given the moniker Dr. Oz during appearances on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," is getting his own U.S. TV program, Sony Pictures Television says.

Oz will star in a new Harpo Productions and Sony Pictures Television production tentatively titled "DR. OZ," Sony Pictures said in a news release Friday.

Winfrey said the series, which will debut next year, will allow Oz to continue offering professional medical advice to viewers as he has on her talk show.

"This is a show I believe in," Winfrey said. "Judging by the response from our viewers, Dr. Oz has already demonstrated he is a valued and trusted medical expert who has created a deep connection with our audience."

Oz was equally hopeful about his series, thanking everyone involved in its creation for their assistance.

"This show allows me to share the same passion I bring to my patients with millions of viewers every day. We will empower the audience to live more fully as they take control of their health ... and their bodies. I am deeply appreciative to Oprah and to our great partner Sony for this opportunity," the doctor said.
