LIVERPOOL, England, June 2 (UPI) -- Rock 'n' roll icon Paul McCartney returned to his hometown of Liverpool, England, to perform as part of the city's European Capital of Culture celebrations.

The Times of London said that before he started his show at Anfield Stadium, the former Beatle told the crowd of about 36,000: "We're going to have a good night out. That's all I ever aim to do."

Among the songs he performed were "Hippy Hippy Shake," "Got to Get You into My Life," "I Saw Her Standing There," "Eleanor Rigby," "A Day in the Life," "Penny Lane," "Jet," "Blackbird," "Live and Let Die" and "Hey Jude," the Times said.
