TORONTO, April 26 (UPI) -- A Canadian-born journalist is suing Universal Studios for a clip featured in the movie "Charlie Wilson's War," court documents show.
Journalist Arthur Kent alleges he never gave permission to the Hollywood studio to use news footage he produced in 1986 in the 2007 film, The Globe and Mail reported Saturday.
Kent had produced a segment of a BBC news program in 1986 regarding the Soviet Union's involvement in Afghanistan and portions of that broadcast were featured in the film.
"This is about the arrogance of a studio stealing, mutilating and distorting the copyrighted material of a war correspondent," Kent's attorney, Rod Berman, said.
Kent also alleges the film, which starred actor Tom Hanks as former U.S. Sen. Charlie Wilson, was "grossly inaccurate" in relation to history.
The Canadian newspaper said the former war correspondent is asking the studio to stop distributing "Charlie" and pay him an unspecified amount of damages.
