Remy Ma's sentencing postponed until May

NEW YORK, April 22 (UPI) -- The sentencing of U.S. rapper Remy Ma for shooting a women she claimed stole money from her purse has been delayed, her attorney says.

Attorney Ivan Fisher told Billboard.com his client was to be sentenced Wednesday for her March 27 conviction on charges of assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion.

However, he said, he sought a continuance until May 13 to prepare his "sentencing submission," Billboard.com said.

The rapper born Remy Smith faces a possible 25 years in prison for shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph, who she claimed stole $3,000 from her purse.

Smith, 26, remains jailed at Rikers Island in New York without bond pending her sentencing, Billboard.com said.
