NEW YORK, April 9 (UPI) -- Walt Disney Studios has announced in New York that most of its upcoming slate of Disney and Pixar animated movies will be presented in Disney Digital 3-D.

The movie studio Tuesday announced plans to release eight of its 10 new animated Disney and Pixar films -- including "Rapunzel," "Toy Story 3" and "Cars 2" -- in the new format through 2012.

After the Pixar space comedy "Wall*E" gets a conventional release in June, the first movie to be released in the Disney Digital 3-D format will be "Bolt" this fall.

Featuring vocal performances by John Travolta and Miley Cyrus, "Bolt" is the story of a canine TV star who is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York, and then embarks on a cross-country journey to get home.

In addition to the eight new films to be made using Disney Digital 3-D, Disney also said it plans to release newly converted 3-D versions of "Toy Story" in 2009 and "Toy Story 2" in 2010.
