LOS ANGELES, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Former U.S. big-league baseball player Bill Buckner will make his feature-film debut in "The Comebacks."
The sports-movie spoof, made by the producers of "Wedding Crashers," is slated to open nationwide Friday.
In the film, co-starring David Koechner and Carl Weathers, Buckner re-enacts the historical moment when. playing for the Boston Red Sox, he missed a critical ground ball in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.
The movie lampoons beloved sports movies such as "Rocky," "Field of Dreams," "Seabiscuit," "Blue Crush," "Stick It" and "The Longest Yard."
Buckner collected more than 2,700 hits in a major-league career that spanned more than 20 years, during which he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Chicago Cubs and Boston.
