LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Australian actor Eric Bana is set to play bad guy Nero in J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Trek" film, Variety.com reported Wednesday.

Bana is best-known for his roles in the Hollywood movies "Munich," "Troy" and "Hulk."

Anton Yelchin, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Leonard Nimoy have signed on to "Star Trek," the latest installment in the classic sci-fi franchise.

Production on the film is set to begin next month, however, young versions of beloved characters James T. Kirk and Scotty haven't yet been cast.

The movie is slated to open Christmas Day 2008.
