Law: I'm not stalking Caine

NEW YORK, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Jude Law says his role in "Sleuth" will probably be the last he inherits from fellow British actor Michael Caine.

Law previously starred in the 2004 remake of Caine's 1966 film, "Alfie."

In "Sleuth," Law takes over the role Caine played in the 1972 movie of the same name.

Caine also acts in the "Sleuth" re-do, this time playing the role created on film by his 1972 co-star, Laurence Olivier.

Asked if it was difficult to work with an actor who had played his character before him, Law told UPI: "With Michael and Milo Tindle (in 'Sleuth,') there's not one line that the characters that we played share, so there was almost no room for comparison.

"And because he was there in front of me, watching me construct this character, he knew I was starting from scratch. It really felt like starting afresh. I've known Michael for a while and I felt slightly foolish in that I've done two of his roles and that's got to stop now. It's not like an obsession. It comes over like I'm some stalker and, really, I'm not," he said with a laugh.
