SAN DIEGO , Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A star-studded, Hollywood film adaptation of the epic poem "Beowulf" has spawned a comic book series.

IDW Publishing has announced it will release a four-part comic book series this month ahead of the movie’s Nov. 16 release.

One of the oldest written works in existence, "Beowulf" is the legend of how a mighty warrior -- Beowulf -- battles the demon Grendel and incurs the hellish wrath of the beast's seductive mother.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the upcoming film version stars Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson, Crispin Glover, Alison Lohman and Angelina Jolie.
