Oprah kicks off season 22 in N.Y.

NEW YORK, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Oprah Winfrey took her top-rated, Chicago-based talk show to New York to kick off its 22nd season on the air.

Two episodes of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" were taped Monday at the 5,600-seat Theater at Madison Square Garden, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

"New York is just the best," said Terry Delgado, a fan from Chicago who got into one of Monday's tapings. "They were just so excited to see her. She really brought it."

Thousands of people filled the sidewalks outside the Garden early Monday, hoping for a chance to see Winfrey's show.

Those lucky enough to get inside gave her a standing ovation when she walked onstage and greeted them with, "Helloooo, New York!"

"All that screaming and yelling, I feel the same about you because there's no place like New York City," she said.

Winfrey told WABC/Channel 7 one of the reasons she went to New York was to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

"It is not, as you know, prominent on some people's minds in the country but it is still seared in the hearts of all New Yorkers," Winfrey said.

One of her shows included interviews with the families of Sept. 11 victims.
