The air show featured a number of military jets and helicopters, which took part in aerial exhibitions that included aerial refueling and aerobatic maneuvers.

The event was part of a celebration of Russian Air Force Day, Drobishevsky said, adding that additional celebrations are scheduled to take place Sunday.

The Russian press agency said the two-day celebration is honoring the anniversary of the creation of the Russian Air Force by Emperor Nicholas II on Aug. 12, 1912.
