Crowe, DiCaprio to pair for 'Lies'

HOLLYWOOD, June 28 (UPI) -- Hollywood headliner Russell Crowe indicated he will join Leonardo DiCaprio in "Bodies of Lies," the David Ignatius novel to be directed by Ridley Scott.

Crowe has been sought to play a ruthless CIA boss since DiCaprio signed on in April. He's awaiting a final script by screenwriter Steve Zallian before formally committing, Variety reported Thursday.

Crowe will play Ed Hoffman, a manipulative CIA boss who teams with operative Roger Ferris, DiCaprio's character, to trap an al-Qaida leader by planting a false rumor that the bomber is working with the Americans.

The film reunites Crowe and Scott, who worked together on "Gladiator," "A Good Year" and the recently completed "American Gangster." They also will work "Nottingham," which begins production next year.
