LOS ANGELES, June 24 (UPI) -- The comedy "Evan Almighty" and horror film "1408" debuted at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in their first weekend in U.S. theaters.
"Evan Almighty," raked in $32.11 million in estimated ticket receipts, while "1408" came in at $20.18 million, Box Office Mojo reported Sunday.
The new flicks pushed last weekend's top movie, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," into third place with $20.15 million in receipts.
Slipping from second to fourth place was "Ocean's Thirteen" with $11.35 million in receipts, while "Knocked Up" also fell two spots to fifth at $10.64 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," $7.22 million; "Surf's Up," $56.7 million; "Shrek the Third," "$5.75 million; "Nancy Drew," $4.5 million; and "A Mighty Heart," another first-week release, $4.01 million.
Knocked out of the leading films were: "Hostel Part II," "Mr. Brooks" and "Spiderman 3."
