Jolie savors socially relevant roles

NEW YORK, June 16 (UPI) -- Angelina Jolie knows all of her films can't be important, socially relevant works, but the Hollywood actress admits she savors those that are.

"It's wonderful. It's, obviously, why you come into this business and it's those projects that you hope -- before you die one day -- to do a few of," Jolie told UPI in New York.

"This is certainly one," the Oscar-winning, humanitarian aid worker added, referring to her latest project, "A Mighty Heart."

Michael Winterbottom's new film is about real-life U.S. journalist Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered by terrorists in Pakistan five years ago. In the movie, Jolie plays Mariane, Pearl's journalist wife, who tirelessly tried to bring her husband home.

Asked if she hopes the film will remind people there are more important stories to tell than what celebrities are wearing, Jolie, a frequent target of tabloids, replied, "Yes, but there is a line drawn for me.

"I think there are those journalists that focus on all the really serious things and they are wonderful and they are out there and risking their lives around the world and doing great things. And then there is a whole other group that I don't put in the same category."
