LOS ANGELES, May 1 (UPI) -- Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres greeted her Los Angeles audience from a hospital bed on doctor's orders after injuring her back during the weekend.
The host of the syndicated daytime show said she was placed on bed rest after she hurt herself Sunday when she leaned over to pick up her dog "who weighs about the size of a sandwich ... (a) good size sandwich." E! News said Tuesday.
"I felt a tear," said DeGeneres, exhibiting her bedside manner with guest Ryan Seacrest, host of "American Idol" during the Monday taping of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "I tore a ligament and did something to something else. That's what happened and they said that I'm not able to sit, to move or to do anything."
Also from her adjustable bed on the set, DeGeneres introduced her doctor, Fred Lerner, and the emergency room technician who treated her, Frankie Conrad.
Since she can't travel, DeGeneres postponed her heavily promoted show on board an airplane traveling from Los Angeles to New York that was to tape on Thursday. She also canceled a May 5 trip to Chicago for a Make-a-Wish Foundation charity event.
