Mellencamp sits in as film critic

CHICAGO, April 20 (UPI) -- Musician John Mellencamp will be sneaking into the balcony this weekend with Chicago film critic Richard Roeper for the "Ebert & Roeper" movie review show.

Roeper shares the "thumb up, thumb down" movie review with guest critics while Ebert recovers from an illness.

Among Roeper and Mellencamp's scheduled slate of reviews are "Vacancy," starring Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson and "Fracture," with Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling, said Buena Vista Television, which distributes the syndicated show.

Mellencamp sold more than 40 albums and earned 15 Grammy nominations during his 30-plus year career. Mellencamp wrote and directed the 1992 feature film "Falling from Grace," which was given two thumbs up on the show and awarded four out of four stars by Ebert in his Chicago Sun-Times review. Roeper, also of the Sun-Times, praised the movie as well.
