Signed Skynyrd platinum record stolen

MIDDLEBURG, Fla., April 18 (UPI) -- Authorities are looking for a Lynyrd Skynyrd platinum record stolen from the Florida home of Tammy Clary, daughter of the late Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant.

Clary reported the commemorative record missing from a wall in her Middleburg, Fla., home Monday. Police were scouring pawn shops and Internet auction sites for the silver-colored, vinyl record and a silver plate, The Jacksonville (Fla.) Times-Union reported.

The special disc, which signifies the sale of 1 million albums, had been inscribed by Van Zant to his daughter. Van Zant died in a 1977 plane crash along with guitarist-vocalist Steve Gaines, vocalist Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick and several others.

The family estimated the item was worth about $80,000 but investigators placed the value closer to $1,000, the newspaper said.

Among Lynyrd Skynyrd's hits were "Free Bird," "Sweet Home, Alabama" and "Saturday Night Special."
