Israelis pick political Eurovision song

JERUSALEM, March 2 (UPI) -- Israelis chose a song ridiculing Islamic terrorists as their entry for the Eurovision song contest, but Eurovision organizers say they may ban the tune.

"Push the Button," was composed by Israeli rock group Teapacks, whose members say that they look forward to using the international platform to convey a message on behalf of the Jewish state, Arutz Sheva said.

In the song, the artists dismiss the global Jihad and Iranian nuclear intentions in a fusion of rap, rock and folk music.

Lead singer Kobi Oz said that his group knew the trilingual song -- with lyrics in English, Hebrew and French -- crosses accepted competition norms, but also noted it was chosen by a majority of Israelis in recent voting. Past entries focused exclusively on themes of peace and love.

Eurovision's organizers are considering whether to ban Teapacks from the competition.

"It's absolutely clear that this kind of message is not appropriate for the competition," organizer Kjell Ekholm said.

Available if "Push the Button" is disqualified is another Teapacks song, "Salaam Salami," which pokes fun at the land-for-peace concept.
