U.S. stuntman injured in Shanghai

SHANGHAI, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Hollywood stuntman Oldrich Svarousky was seriously injured in Shanghai, China, while attempting to jump from the top of a moving car and through a ring of fire.

Svarousky, who worked as a stuntman in "Men in Black" and is a member of the Filmka stunt group, has been treated for a concussion and a fractured rib, Shanghai Daily reported Monday.

Doctors said that the 48-year-old daredevil's condition is not longer life threatening after being treated in the hospital intensive care unit.

Svarousky was injured during a Hollywood-style stunt performance at Zhabei Stadium, which consisted of 36 death-defying stunts. He, who was standing on the vehicle, was trying to jump through a series of hoops suspended above the route of the car.

He hit his head on the second hoop and fell off the back of the car.

"We feel very sorry about what happened, but it's a dangerous game," said the performance sponsors representative Lu Pin.
