Blanchett not giving up film for theater

NEW YORK, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Cate Blanchett says in New York she will not give up film acting, even though she and her husband will soon be artistic directors of the Sydney Theater Company.

"Look, I don't think I could do too many more years like I had last year," Blanchett told reporters in New York recently. "That was an astonishing year. To be offered 'Babel,' 'Notes on a Scandal' and 'The Good German,' I wouldn't expect that to happen again. And even though 'Babel' was only three weeks, it was a lot and I've got two children. But, no, for as long as I'm offered film roles, I'll absolutely take them."

The Australian actress said the theater company, which is run by an artist, actor, writer, director or designer, has a clause in its charter that allows its artistic directors three months off a year to pursue their own creative projects.

"Basically, so they generate their own creative juices to bring back into the company, which I think is a great policy," she said.
