Weather doesn't spoil Macy's Parade in NYC

NEW YORK, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Blustery weather Thursday caused some added precautions to be taken but failed to dampen the fun at the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.

The trademark balloons were kept at a lower altitude to prevent the wind from pulling them away from their handlers, and the throngs who lined the Manhattan parade route were bundled up against the chilly gusts.

WABC-TV, New York, said the parade went off as scheduled, although wind-measuring devices along the route kept an eye on the breezes in case they surpassed the 22 mph limit for the balloons.

Thursday's parade was the 80th edition of the event that annually draws millions of spectators plus millions more watching the nationwide telecast.
