Cruise-Holmes wedding short on Italians

ROME, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Even though it is taking place just outside of Rome, the wedding of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes only has one confirmed Italian invitee.

With singer Andrea Bocelli as the event's sole Italian guest representative, the Italian press agency ANSA reported that some in Italy have begun to criticize the nearly inaccessible wedding.

Princess Odescalchi, who owns the Italian castle where the celebrities are being married, has said she does not think she will even get an invitation.

The obvious absence of native Italians among the wedding's nearly 250 guests is not the only issue facing Holmes and Cruise, as a local priest has confirmed that the couple will not be given a Catholic ceremony as previously reported.

"There will be no Catholic wedding because Tom Cruise is a divorcee," Monsignor Nicola Fiorentini told ANSA.
