The CW banking on 'Reba' to secure Sundays

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- As part of an effort to bolster its Sunday prime-time lineup, The CW is resurrecting the U.S. comedy "Reba" from what many thought was an early demise.

The decision comes as the freshman network struggles to find a reliable Sunday night lineup -- and canceling "Reba" would have required an eight figure kill fee, said Zap2it.com.

The sitcom had served as The WB's top-rated comedy series for five years. Its cancellation would have required The CW to pay off the series' producer, 20th Century Fox.

The CW had begun the fall TV season with the comedies "Girlfriends" and "Everybody Hates Chris" on its Sunday schedule, but poor ratings eventually necessitated a move of both to new Monday slots.

Beginning Nov. 19, the Web site said, the Reba McEntire-powered comedy will anchor a Sunday lineup that will include the freshman drama "Runaway" -- which is running out its season after being canceled -- and "7th Heaven," a long-running hit on the former WB network.
