New deftones album created from turmoil

DARIEN LAKE, N.Y., Oct. 31 (UPI) -- A little producer turmoil did not deter the hard rock group deftones from finishing its new album, "Saturday Night Wrist."

The northern California quintet started work on the album two years ago with rock producer Bob Ezrin. But they wound up parting ways and returning to Terry Date, who worked on the deftones' four previous albums.

"I like Bob a lot. He's a really cool guy," said guitarist Stephen Carpenter. "But the way we work and the way Bob works is two different methods. He's very, very disciplined; we're not very disciplined at all. We're just a garage band that's still going at it from that mentality.

"So you can imagine what a freight train wreck that was."

"Saturday Night Wrist" is deftones' first album of new material since a self-titled release in 2003. The group put out a "B Sides & Rarities" set in 2005.
