HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Former NFL Player's Association executive Doug Allen will be the point man for the Screen Actors Guild in upcoming U.S. contract negotiations.

The union leadership approved Allen's appointment on a unanimous vote over the weekend, after which Allen vowed to play tough in the coming talks with Hollywood's leading talent agencies and in the 2008 television and film negotiations.

SAG President Alan Rosenberg told Daily Variety the union was impressed with Allen's experience dealing with big-money players and owners in the National Football League.

While Allen declined to discuss the details of his plans, he told Variety that he was determined that SAG agree to a good contract in 2008, saying that no contract was better than a bad one.
