'Raymond' writer Royce signs with HBO

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- "Everybody Loves Raymond" star Ray Romano and writer Mike Royce have reunited to create shows for the premium cable TV network, HBO.

Royce, who also worked as executive producer during the two final seasons of "Raymond," was lured to the premium network by a seven-figure contract, Daily Variety reported Wednesday.

"We're not looking to repeat 'Raymond,' which would be impossible anyway," Royce, whose new HBO deal begins in January, told Variety.

"But we're looking at what kind of direction we might go that would be comfortable for both of us," he added. "We've known each other for a long time, so it will be interesting to see what we can turn out."

Royce recently served as executive producer HBO's single season comedy, "Lucky Louie."
