John Cullum joins Broadway's 'Grinch'

NEW YORK, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Tony Award-winning actor John Cullum has joined the cast of Broadway's "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! -- The Musical," set to open next month.

The 76-year-old actor will play Old Max the Dog in the musical production of the Dr. Seuss children's classic, performing alongside Patrick Page as The Grinch when special holiday performances begin Oct. 25, Playbill.com reported.

With Matt August at the helm and Bob Richard heading up choreography, " Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! -- The Musical" is scheduled to open Nov. 8 at the Hilton Theatre and run until Jan. 7.

Cullum, who won Tony Awards for "On the Twentieth Century" and "Shenandoah," will also provide narration for the production. Rusty Ross is set to play young Max the Dog.

"The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" was published in 1957 and was later adapted for the stage by director Jack O'Brien, who has presented the production at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre for the last eight years, said Playbill.
