Borat Toronto film fest debut hits snag

TORONTO, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy starring his Kazakh character Borat debuted a day late at the Toronto International Film Festival because of a projector breakdown.

Cohen arrived for the sold-out screening late Thursday night in a cart pulled by a group of women dressed as peasants, amid crowds holding placards with classic Borat Sagdiyev lines such as "Pimp my goat," the Globe and Mail reported Saturday.

However, just 15 minutes into "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," the projector broke.

Film director and former projectionist Michael Moore attempted to fix the machine, but had no success. Cohen, in character as the globe-trotting TV reporter from Kazakhstan, entertained the crowd as the problem was studied.

"It is a very great honor to make a visit to the minor nation of Canadas," the British actor said. "Our countries are very similar, and not only because of the projector system."

The show was rescheduled and played late Friday night.
