MELBOURNE, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Entertainer Barry Humphries' alter ego, Dame Edna, publicly claimed this week in Australia to have once had an affair with famed painter Pablo Picasso.
The Melbourne Herald Sun reported that speaking at a ceremony in the Australian city in the role of his popularized fictional character, Humphries not only openly lambasted himself but claimed Edna had been Picasso's mistress and the focus of many of his paintings.
"He was on the rebound from someone called Dora," Humphries said at Wednesday's ceremony of the affair.
Dame Edna admonished Humphries for his May attack in Sydney of a photographer, which she blamed on her manager's past testosterone injections.
Dame Edna was in the city to accept an honorary key to the city in recognition of her 50 years as an entertainer.
The paper said that her new comedy stage show, "Barry Humphries and Friends -- Back with a Vengeance," is to open in December at the Arts Theatre.
