FRANKLIN, Tenn., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Singer Mindy McCready will ask for a new trial to overturn her conviction last year in Tennessee for driving with a suspended license.
The Nashville Tennessean said the 30-year-old country music singer will seek a new trial in Davidson County based on a Tennessee Department of Safety document that shows her driver's license was not suspended when she was pulled over last May by police and charged with driving with a suspended license and drunk driving.
While the "I'm Not So Tough" singer was acquitted on the drunk driving charge, she was convicted on July 19 for driving with a suspended license and now faces sentencing on Sept. 13.
A lawyer for the singer, who was in a Williamson County court Monday facing parole violation charges, said that the motion for a new trial will not be issued until after McCready is sentenced in September, the newspaper reported.
