Public broadcasting leads Emmy nominees

NEW YORK, July 19 (UPI) -- Public broadcasting programs grabbed 33 nods to lead the field of News and Documentary Emmy Award nominees, it was reported Wednesday.

NBC News led the networks with 19 nominations, CBS grabbed 16 nods and ABC got 14, TVWeek.com reported.

Basic cable's History Channel received 12 nods while the National Geographic Channel was nominated in eight categories, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said.

The 27th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards ceremony will be Sept. 25 in New York.
