Song details Schaefer's eating disorder

NASHVILLE, June 19 (UPI) -- Nashville's Jenni Schaefer has detailed her struggles in her recent song "Life without Ed" -- her former eating disorder has the title role.

In the song and in her book "Life without Ed: How One Woman Declared Independence from Her Eating Disorder and How You Can Too," Schaefer describes her lifelong battle with bulimia and anorexia, Entertainment Tonight reports.

"I really beat my eating disorder by reaching out for help," said the country music singer. "It was about staying connected to people and never ever giving up. People do recover from an eating disorder."

It was after visiting with therapist Thom Rutledge that Schaefer named her eating disorder "Ed" and began to overcome it by recognizing her negative relationship to it.

The song chronicles her victory over Ed as a breakup from a bad boyfriend whose negative advice she has decided to no longer heed.

"I'm very grateful to be here today," Schaefer added.
